This Saturday, November 2nd, foodies in San Francisco will have reason to celebrate as “Gourmet East Bay” will be hitting the city for 2013. Taking place at the Broadway Plaza shopping center in Walnut Creek, the event will feature 20 of the East Bay’s finest eateries offering up the best cuisine on their menus. There will also be eight featured wineries from Livermore, Napa, and Lodi, a featured brewery (Ale Industries), and Steeltown Coffee & Tea will be offering up the caffeinated goodness.

There will be spirits vendors mixing up fine cocktails, live music, and a raffle and silent auction featuring some quite exciting and lucrative prizes. On top of everything else, proceeds will go to support the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano and Project Open Hand, making this an event with a conscience.

Tickets go for $60-$70, which is not a bad price at all considering the quality of food and drink to be available at this event. If you live in the Bay Area and love great cuisine and libations, you will not want to miss Gourmet East Bay 2013, taking place from 7:00-10:00 PM on November 2nd.

“Saturday Night Soul Party” in SF

If you are looking for something seriously fun to do on the first and third Saturday of each month in San Francisco, hit up elbow room on Valencia for their twice-a-month “Saturday Night Soul Party” event. Popular Bay Area DJs such as Phengren, Paul Paul, and Pink Panzer (there seems to be a “P” theme going on here) spin obscure soul 45s from the classic Motown/Stax era that you likely have never heard unless you are a serious soul wax aficionado.

Wear formal attire like a cool cat from back in the day in the spirit of the retro-themed event and get in for $5, otherwise, the cover is $10. Not so bad for a night full of eclectic classic soul, dancing, and mingling among the chillest of San Franciscans. Hit up the Elbo Room’s website for more info on the event and other events going on at this popular San Francisco hotspot.

jkalleyAnyone who knows anything about San Francisco knows that it is certainly a town known for its literary muscle, and this Sunday, October 6th there will be a great opportunity to celebrate San Francisco literary culture while getting a little exercise as San Fran cyclist and writer Nicole Gluckstern hosts “Bikes to Books.”

The event will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of twelve San Francisco streets being named after notable authors and artists of the likes of Jack Kerouac and Jack London. Gluckstern will be taking cyclists on a two-hour route connecting all 12 notable San Francisco streets. The infamous blogger Burrito Justice also created a map which is being published by City Lights bookstore showing the route annotated by relevant historic info related to the streets and their namesakes.

The ride ends at Jack Kerouac Alley and City Lights bookstore, where San Fran literary enthusiast Evan Karp will be hosting a map release party where samples will be read from the works of the authors for which the streets are named. The event starts at 10:30 AM at Jack London street. For more info on the proceedings, check out the Burrito Justice post regarding the event.
