Posted by GPGarry | Posted in Book Events, Street Events | Posted on 03-10-2013

jkalleyAnyone who knows anything about San Francisco knows that it is certainly a town known for its literary muscle, and this Sunday, October 6th there will be a great opportunity to celebrate San Francisco literary culture while getting a little exercise as San Fran cyclist and writer Nicole Gluckstern hosts “Bikes to Books.”

The event will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of twelve San Francisco streets being named after notable authors and artists of the likes of Jack Kerouac and Jack London. Gluckstern will be taking cyclists on a two-hour route connecting all 12 notable San Francisco streets. The infamous blogger Burrito Justice also created a map which is being published by City Lights bookstore showing the route annotated by relevant historic info related to the streets and their namesakes.

The ride ends at Jack Kerouac Alley and City Lights bookstore, where San Fran literary enthusiast Evan Karp will be hosting a map release party where samples will be read from the works of the authors for which the streets are named. The event starts at 10:30 AM at Jack London street. For more info on the proceedings, check out the Burrito Justice post regarding the event.
